丝绸之路兴起于汉，兴盛于唐，衰落于宋。历史的兴衰，是敦煌莫高窟艺术兴衰的底层逻辑；或者说，敦煌莫高窟的艺术变迁，见证了中国近十个世纪的历史脉络。本次讲座将依托丰富的历史文献与石窟实物，深入解读莫高窟中所呈现的大唐盛世景象，分析其如何通过雕塑、经变画、藻井图案、社会生活图像等多种艺术形式，完整保存了唐代的繁荣气象与丝路文明交融的生动细节，并进一步探讨丝路兴衰与敦煌艺术命运之间的内在关联。这不仅是一场关于敦煌艺术的审美之旅，更是一次透过石窟看中国、透过壁画读历史的深层对话。

The Silk Road emerged in the Han Dynasty, flourished in the Tang Dynasty, and declined in the Song Dynasty. The rise and fall of history constituted the underlying logic behind the artistic evolution of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang; in other words, the changes in the art of Mogao Grottoes have witnessed the historical context of China over nearly ten centuries. Drawing on abundant historical documents and the physical relics of the grottoes, this lecture will conduct an in-depth interpretation of the grand prosperity of the Tang Dynasty depicted in the Mogao Grottoes. It will analyze how the grottoes, through diverse artistic forms such as sculptures, Buddhist sutra paintings, caisson ceiling patterns, and scenes of social life, have fully preserved the prosperous scene of the Tang Dynasty and vivid details of the cultural integration along the Silk Road. Furthermore, it will explore the inherent connection between the rise and fall of the Silk Road and the fate of Dunhuang art. This is not only an aesthetic journey into Dunhuang art but also a profound dialogue through which we can observe China via the grottoes and read history through the murals.
